Only one of about 8 caladiums popped back up this spring, so we went to purchase replacements. The bulbs were a lot cheaper, and the horticulturist assured us that they should come up within a week or so of planting. When I informed Nathan we were going to plant some bulbs, he was a little confused. To him, bulb = light (we start working on homonyms next week ;-). He began asking the following questions...
"Are we gonna plant some bulbs, Daddy?" ("Yes, sir!")
"Are we gonna plug them in?" ("No, these are plant bulbs")
"Do they have batteries?" ("No, buddy, they're going to grow into plants")
"Are they gonna turn on at night time?" ("Nathan, these are not light bulbs")
"Can they shock you?" ("Only if they don't grow anything")
"Are we going to plant some Christmas bulbs, too?" ("Maybe in late October")
Unfortunately, in regard to my last two responses, Nathan has not really learned the art of sarcasm yet. Being my son, I predict he'll soon be ahead of the curve!
