Nathan enjoys the occasional piece of Trident gum. He knows not to swallow it. He knows not to take it out and play with it. He knows the proper disposal options: wrap in paper, throw in trash, toss in toilet, or (if in the car) flick it out the window (kidding).
Evan has not had any gum experience. It was not our intention to give him one any time soon. Which is why I was concerned one recent evening when he was chewing away on something resembling a piece of gum. He's been chewing on anything and everything as he cuts his two-year molars. Laura was closer, so I inquired not-so-calmly, "what does that boy have in his mouth, now?" The boys had been playing near a window where we had found a dead June bug earlier, and our first thought was that it might be another one (Evan likes bugs!). Once she chased down the little roadrunner, she pulled out the item in question. Thankfully, it was not a bug or gum. It was only the bandaid Nathan had on his big toe all day! At least it appeared to be clean (although whether it was when he first started chewing it is anyone's guess).
