Broken Moon

We were outside the other night when Evan spotted the moon. "Look a dat moon!" he exclaimed, "wha happened to da moon, Daddy?" It was a quarter moon, so he was curious as to what happened to the rest of it. Checking Nathan's recent solar system studies (video and book we checked out from the library), I asked him what happened to the moon. I really thought he would tell us how the earth is casting a shadow over part of the moon, but he surprised me: "I guess it's just broken!"
