Wining & Dining

On Easter Sunday, Nathan was the only toddler at church (it's a small fellowship), so we just kept him with us. We meet in the cafe area of a local community art house/theater. Each week, a communion table is set up with a large round loaf of bread torn in two and two bowls - one with red grape juice, and the other with red wine. During the gathering, people are welcome to serve themselves communion whenever they choose to. We simply pinch off some bread, dip it into one of the bowls, and eat it. Usually, there is half a loaf or more left over, and we'll sometimes snack on it as we visit and leave.

On Easter Sunday, Nathan was hungry. He made his way to the table a couple of times and proceeded to pinch, dip and eat his "juice-bread". No big deal. Until, at the end of our discussion, I was asked to close in prayer. Nathan was beside me in front of the communion table, when I made the mistake of closing my eyes to pray. I only prayed for a moment, but it only took a moment for my little muncher to make his way behind the table and grab another piece of bread, dip it into the bowl and chomp it down. Only this time, he dipped in the wine! Laura (who was watching) said he had a look of shock and awe as he cringed and shook himself from head to toe. He took a good nap that afternoon, too!

These glasses are pinching my ears, Daddy!
